4. Compete for the top

Potential Drone: Zoom DJI Mavic 2
Purchase Location: DJI.com
Cost: $1,179* This picture was taken in Shanghai, China, by social media user @AndyAndy, who captioned it “Compete for the Top.” Captured at 1/1000s with a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, this image depicts a competitive race in a more subdued manner. The aerial view of this competitive conflict is really relaxing, even if the rowers on the water are undoubtedly engaged in a frantic competition.

Perspective is a powerful tool that aerial photographers can use to alter our perception of the environment. Even though it may appear as though there are tears, blood, and sweat on the ground, a bird (or drone) flying overhead will capture a far more serene, distant image.

5. Gold at the end of the Rainbow

Cost: $4,000.* Titled “Gold at the End of the Rainbow,” Australian drone photographer Phil De Glanville managed to capture an image that could only have been captured by a drone acting in a split second. He took home the “Sport” category award, and the image of the surfer riding a wave is artfully divided by a rainbow.

Although photographing a rainbow isn’t always simple, De Glanville succeeded in getting the picture. The professional surfer Ollie Henry is the “gold” at the end of the rainbow. According to De Glanville, he took this picture while “escaping a monster wave,” which is something the Australian coast is famous for.

6. Shark

Phil de Glanville (@phlyimages on Instagram) was named a 2021 finalist in the Hasselblad Masters in Aerial and Wildlife Categories because of this incredible picture of a shark taken at an angle we don’t often get to witness. According to his Instagram, De Glanville called the nomination a “huge honor,” and it was certainly well-deserved.

The conservation status of these Great White Sharks is designated as “vulnerable,” and stunning images like this one highlight how important it is to preserve these well-known marine animals.
