9. Staying Away from Scandalous Film and Literature

Reason: To uphold the monarchy’s honourable reputation.
Personal and private choices are exceptions.
In terms of public perception, the Royal Family treads carefully on a narrow rope. Every decision they make is scrutinized because of their positions as ambassadors of British tradition, legacy, and dignity. This includes the things they choose to watch on TV. The monarchy’s prestigious reputation could be damaged by openly supporting or participating in controversial literature and films could damage the monarchy’s prestigious reputation.

Such things can conflict with the ideals that the royal family is supposed to uphold. But like any other person, members of the Royal Family are allowed to enjoy a wide variety of books and films in their private lives. There’s a fine balancing act between individual preference and public opinion.
