Another ship that met an untimely end on this list was HMS Pandora. When the ship was launched by the Royal Navy in May 1779, many people who caught a glimpse of it soon learned to fear it. After tracking down Bounty mutineers, HMS Pandora apprehended fourteen of them.

It is believed that a typhoon destroyed the ship during its return journey from Tahiti, plunging it to the ocean’s floor. Both crew members and prisoners descended from the ship. After learning about the Pandora mythology, independent searchers John Heyer and Ben Cropp would need centuries to locate the wreck.
