2. The Moon of Hyperion
Found Year: 1848
William Cranch Bond, George Phillips Bond, and William Lassell are the ones who found it.
Location: Saturn’s moon
Hyperion on Saturn is undoubtedly one of the most peculiar moons in the solar system. The uneven rock, which resembles pumice stone, has many craters and is charged with a particular kind of static energy that is emitted into space. In 1848, William Cranch Bond, George Phillips Bond, his son, and William Lassell made the discovery of hyperion.

Hyperion was the first non-round moon to be found, despite Saturn having 83 verified moons. The Greek deity Hyperion, the Titan of observation and caution, inspired the name of the moon. Hyperion is primarily made of water ice, much like the majority of Saturn’s moons, with very little rock.
