A part of Mars, the Red Planet, called Cydonia has caught the attention of both scientists and the general public. Cydonia is made up of a complicated network of plains, mesas, and small hills, but its faces are perhaps its most distinctive characteristic. The Viking orbiters of NASA took the initial photos of the faces.

Since its introduction in the 1970s, these features—which resemble human faces and have two eyes, a nose, and a mouth—have captivated people. Despite the likelihood that this is really a coincidence, it is fascinating to observe how Cydonia has developed.
