The Queen Mother was first given the enormous, eye-catching purple heart-shaped amethyst pendant on her wedding day in 1923. It is estimated to be worth $200,000 because of the exquisite way a chain of diamonds and pearls sets off the diamond-set stone. It makes sense that Camilla ended up wearing the necklace because Prince Charles is said to adore it.
It bears some resemblance to the iconic Heart of the Ocean from James Cameron’s critically acclaimed 1990s CBS film Titanic, at least to the uninformed eye. But the Heart of the Ocean was a gem, a made-up story. Nothing about this enormous jewel is fake!
