The M4 Sherman tank was modified to become the Sherman M-51, also referred to as the Super Sherman. From the middle of the 1950s until the beginning of the 1980s, the IDF operated Super Shermans, which were involved in some of the most well-known battles of those three decades.

When the Israeli Defense Forces visited France and saw M4-like tanks, they were motivated to construct the Sherman. Approximately 180 of these cars were made over the years. Following the end of the Sherman’s useful life, Israel sold about 100 of the surviving Shermans to Chile, which utilized them until 1999 before switching to the Leopard 1.
