A sixty-foot scissors bridge is launched and recovered by the M60 AVLB (Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge). The launch, hull, and bridge are the three primary components of the AVLB. Using a design from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Laboratory, General Dynamics created this vehicle, which made its debut in the early 1960s.

With a combat-loaded weight of 53.3 tons, the M60A1 AVLB was equipped with the MLC60 bridge. This hull and launcher could travel up to thirty miles per hour at its top speed, with eighteen inches of ground clearance. The production cost of each unit was about $1.49 million.
