13. Sherman Firefly – UK
Manufacturer: Chrysler Corporation’s Detroit Tank Arsenal
Main Users: The British Army
Unit Cost: $765,500* Program Cost: $1.6 billion*
During World War II, the British deployed this formidable tank. The Sherman Firefly was far more potent than the M4 Sherman since it was equipped with a three-inch British 17-pound anti-tank gun as its primary armament. Though the military adored it, the Firefly was originally intended to be a stopgap for another tank design.

During World War II, the Sherman emerged as the most often used tank equipped with a 17-pound gun in action. Unlike any other British tank at the time, the Firefly could virtually always shoot through the armor of the Tiger and Panther tanks it encountered in Normandy. German forces were frequently told to assault the Fireflies first in order to have a chance in battle because of their superior firepower.
