Originally known as the Centurion, the Olifant was a mainstay British tank that remains one of the most successful in British military history. The Centurion was first produced during World War II and continued to be produced for the next twenty years. Because of its excellent armor, armament, and agility, the tank was widely used.

The Olifant was the result of modernizing the Centurion during the 1980s and 2000s. The National Defense Force of South Africa operates two hundred of these vehicles. The production cost of an Olifant is around $503,000. Its primary armaments include a L7, a 20-pdr, and a 17-pdr rifle gun.
