Not a great place to erect the tent alongside the river. This caption probably goes with an image that graphically shows the dangers of bad campground choice. The picture can show a flooded tent, half buried in rising river floods, with its contents floating either inside or carried away by the torrent. Alternatively, it might depict a dramatic scenario of campers quickly moving their tent and equipment as the river approaches their selected location. This picture reminds me strongly of the need of giving the surroundings great thought when choosing where to set up camp, especially close to bodies of water whose change with the seasons is fast. It emphasises how erratic outdoor experiences are and how important it is for campers to be updated about possible hazards such flash floods. The picture probably makes viewers who have had near calls of their own feel both “there but for the grace of go I” and sorrow for the poor campers. This is a sobering story that emphasises the need of respect and readiness for exploration of environment, even in apparently perfect settings.
