The eight haunting, otherworldly hot springs known as the “Hells of Beppu” are more unusual in appearance than other hot springs. Sea Hell, Onishi Shaven Head Hell, Mountain Hell, Cooking Pot Hell, Devil Mountain Hell, White Pond Hell, Blood Pond Hell, and Tornado Hell are the eight hells as they are known in English.

Every hell has a certain allure of its own. For instance, Blood Pond Hell, next door, features brilliant red water, while Tornado Hell has a massive geyser that shoots hot water ten minutes every hour.
