The Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle, which was first created by General Dynamics to replace the Marines’ prior amphibious transport vehicle, revolutionized land-and-air combat for the armed forces of the United States. The Marine Corps still has a few of EFVs in service even though they were phased out in 2011.

The EFV’s inception dates back to the late 1970s, and in the mid-1990s it was ultimately approved by the defense department and received funding. The completion of productions and tests required a further five years. Nevertheless, the wait was worthwhile because a single EFV can securely and safely transport a full squad of Marines over land and sea.
