Discovering a highly sought-after wreck is similar to winning the lottery for adventurers and treasure seekers, but it usually requires more work. When the Atocha was caught up in a hurricane in 1622, it was scheduled to deliver a heavy cargo of extraordinarily expensive diamonds, gold, and other goods to Spain.

Sadly, the ship sank like a stone since it was unable to withstand the severe weather. The Atocha was eventually found in 1985, hundreds of years later, on the ocean floor close to Key West, Florida. A large portion of the haul, which was estimated to be worth $450 million, was still in place. In context, that represents a greater value than Sony star J-Lo.
