The captain’s greatest hope in the event of a ship sinking is that everyone on board survives. Ultimately, the loss of life surpasses the loss of goods by a significant margin. While food and grain cargo may be readily replaced, the loss of billions of dollars’ worth of gems and gold is somewhat devastating.

In 1708, a battle broke out between the Spanish ship San Jose and the British. Regretfully, it was sunk by the British. The wreck, which was believed to be lost, was found in 2015, but the public didn’t learn about the discovery until three years later.
