The Republic of Haiti is renowned for its subpar jail infrastructure. There are currently 358 percent too many inmates in several Haitian jails. Accordingly, each prisoner is only given 1.5 square meters. One of the reasons behind the high inmate death rate is the extreme overcrowding in jails.
