21. Razor Forks
Est. Cost (New): $5*
Est. Cost (DIY): $7*
There are some things that should never be mixed. Forks and razors are one of them. It’s a little hard to see what circumstances led to the creation of these pieces of wonderment, but someone obviously thought it was a novel idea to stick razors on top of disposable forks.

A pack of new disposable razors will cost you less than $5 at Walmart so it’s a struggle to see the logic in this. Not only were perfectly good razors broken, but plastic forks were damaged beyond repair too, leading to an estimated cost of $7.
There could be some sort of wizardry going on here that simply goes over the heads of us mere mortals. Maybe the razors can be angled better, but it’s difficult to believe that someone with a bag of plastic forks thought of something Gilette didn’t.
22. Duct Taped Road
Est. Cost (New): $500 per 100m*
Est. Cost (DIY): $2*
Cracks in roads can be irritating for any drivers that care about their tires, let alone pedestrians that don’t want to fall over their own feet. That being said, cracks aren’t all that cheap to fix. Re-tarmacking a road can cost upward of $500 per 100 meters.

One caring neighborhood scout thought they could get the job done with a $2 roll of tape. Clearly taping the crack together in several spots will be enough to stop it from getting worse. The positivity is endearing, but the reality is saddening.
Hopefully, this was just a stopgap procedure before the local authority came over and did something about it that constituted an actual repair, but that kind of thing can take an age. It’s both incredibly sweet and painfully naive that it came to this, isn’t it?
23. Grandma’s Car Interior
Est. Cost (New): $20*
Est. Cost (DIY): $100*
Bespoke car seat covers will always cost a little more than ones you can buy from sites like Amazon. A set from the popular online marketplace can be as cheap as $20, but if you’re looking for something a little more frilly, you could do what this person did and make them yourself.

This twee set looks more like grandma’s living room than top of the line car fashion, but the price can’t be underestimated. When you take into account the cost of materials and the sheer time it took to make, this mess would have likely cost over $100.
That’s kind of amazing when you think about it. What’s even more amazing is that someone actually made this and thought it was the bee’s knees. Somewhere out there, a car owner is driving in this – and actually likes it. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.
24. Jean Bag Chair
Est. Cost (New): $40*
Est. Cost (DIY): $80*
A simple bean bag has been the staple of any decent den or game room for decades, but why buy a standard one online for $40 when you can make a unique one made out of old jeans? We’ve all asked ourselves that question at least once.

Let’s say each pair of jeans cost $20, plus there’s the cost of the filling. By the time you’ve sewn the last stitch on this 8-legged wonder, you could have shelled out over $80. Is it really worth the strange looks you’ll get from the rest of the family, though?
Some may say yes, some say no. Either way, you have to admit that it’s an interesting piece of furniture that no one else will have. This isn’t an Ikea Kallax unit. It’s a conversation starter if nothing else – even if it’s a bit creepy.
25. The MJ Haircut
Est. Cost (New): $15-30*
Est. Cost (DIY): $30*
Investing in a pair of hair clippers can be a great way to save money. A decent pair costs just $30 and can equate to free hair cuts, but it only really pays off if the hair cut is decent. Shaving designs into a cut has been popular for years – so what do you do if your son says, “Daddy, can you shave Michael Jordan into my hair?”

Most of us would say no, but this noble gent gave it the old college try. The result was a stick figure holding a ball and, presumably, a new baseball cap to hide under until it all grew back.
This will undoubtedly go down in history as “the time dad said he could cut my hair.” This story will be told for generations, so maybe it was worth all the time it took to grow out. After all, every family has its demons.
26. Orange Candle
Est. Cost (New): $5*
Est. Cost (DIY): $3*
There is a huge market for candles – and rightly so. Who doesn’t want a wonderfully scented home that smells as fresh as a daisy? Most of us might go to the store and shell out $5 on a professionally made ware, but why do that when you can slice an orange in half and pour some wax in it?

According to some internet users this is a quick way to spruce up a funky smelling room, but we wouldn’t recommend trying this at home. Not only is it a pointless waste of time, but it’s a little bit dangerous, too.
27. Microphone Shower Hack
Est. Cost (New): $400-$600*
Est. Cost (DIY): $30*
Showers are so commonplace that most of us that are lucky to have one don’t really appreciate the trials that other people have to go through. In this case, one savvy homeowner thought they would save themselves a few hundred bucks by making their own power shower.

By using a $30 microphone stand and a shower head fixed to the top, one inventive mastermind was able to revamp their bathroom at a fraction of the cost. Of course, it looks terrible – but it works!
28. Drawers That Never Open
Est. Cost (New): $400*
Est. Cost (DIY): $100-$200*
Every home has at least one awkward nook or cranny that just isn’t that accommodating when it comes to furniture. It can be difficult to find the perfect thing to go in that strange corner, but this person clearly didn’t have the patience to keep hunting.

Instead, they botched it and installed a countertop complete with drawers. Only, the drawers are just there for show and will never be opened as there’s a wall blocking it. For the sake of a hundred dollars, is it really worth it? We have to take a hard pass on this.
29. Hot Tub
Est. Cost (New): $800-$1000*
Est. Cost (DIY): Immeasurable
Imagine being so desperate for a dip in warm water that you think rigging your own hot tub is a good idea. In this case, one bright spark thought lighting up a garbage can and attaching it to a plastic swimming pool would be a good idea.

Hot tubs are expensive, so it’s not exactly difficult to imagine why someone can’t just go out and pick up the latest one. However, it is unfathomable to try and understand why someone thinks this is an acceptable solution. When it comes down to it, the potential cost of this boiling pot is immeasurable.
30. Bunny Pancakes
Est. Cost (New): $3*
Est. Cost (DIY): $3*
Every parent knows how difficult it can be to get kids to eat something they don’t want to, so at first glance a sweet bunny-shaped pancake seems like a great answer. But, it only works if it turns out well. The original idea looks like heaven – but the reproduction?

The result is something akin to the otherworldly feel of Watership Down. Everyone loves a trier, but there’s something completely unsettling about the huge banana eyes and over-ripe ears. There are plenty of things that can be served on a plate, but disappointment should never be one of them.
