The US Air Force is the main user of the KC-10 Extender aerial refuelling tanker, while some are also flown by the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The aircraft made its maiden flight in 1980 and was put into service not long after. The Boeing KC-10 Extender is essentially a military variant of the DC-10, a three-engine aircraft.

The Extender, of which 60 have been produced so far for the USAF, uses military technology for aerial refuelling and transport. For the US, especially in the Middle East in the late 1960s and early 1990s, the Extender has been indispensable.
