This glider is made by the German manufacturer DG Flugzeugbau. The glider belongs to the class of two-seaters. The US Air Force has given the DG-1000 the designation TG-16A. The Blanik TG-10 was chosen to be replaced by the TG-16A. Cadets at the USAF Academy can practise flying on the TG-16A Glider.

It’s unclear if ideas for a flying trainer were filed by US firms like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, or Northrop Grumman. Still, in 2011 the TG-16A was integrated into the Air Force Academy. Additionally, the US Air Force Academy Aerobatic Demonstration Team uses it as their primary competition aircraft.
