Even if the Pope isn’t strictly speaking a royal, at least one of his several jewelry pieces needs to be on this list given his high stature. With each new Pope, the Ring of the Fisherman, also known as the Piscatory Ring, is recast. The Pope’s regalia includes the Ring, whose meaning is derived from a passage in the Bible that refers to the Apostles as “Fishers of Men.”

Catholics have been showing their love for the Church by kissing the Pope’s ring since the Middle Ages. Until the 1840s, the ring was also used as a signet. Although Pope Benedict XVI wore his gold ring every day, popes no longer typically wear them. Pope Francis, who is currently pope, has chosen to wear a simple silver ring from his days as a cardinal instead of this ostentatious device.
