Leslie Scott first presented the game of Jenga, which requires both physical and cerebral talent, to the public in the early 1980s. Jenga is a game made up of 54 wooden blocks arranged in a tower that was inspired by a game she played with her family in Africa. One brick at a time, the players take turns taking them out and arranging them atop the tower without letting the building collapse.

The verb “to build” in Swahili, which inspired the game’s name, sums up its goal quite well. Its apparent simplicity belies its complexity, as each movement has the potential to bring about either stability or a falling death, creating tense moments and hearty laughs when the tower collapses.
