Massive, dense clouds known as cumulonimbus arise when strong winds carry water vapour skyward. As everyone knows, these clouds herald not only lightning, thunder, and rain, but also tornadoes and hail.

As this picture shows, they can be both incredibly terrifying and gorgeous in the right lighting. The storm clouds are illuminated with an unsettling orange light and appear as though they are ready to engulf the entire Earth.
