Ball lightning is a phenomena.

One of the strangest and most mysterious types of lightning is ball lightning. It is simply a round, bright ball of electricity, but technically it is a luminous, spherical atmospheric electrical phenomenon. Although actual scientific evidence on ball lightning is still scarce due to its extreme rarity, scientists have managed to reproduce the phenomenon in a lab setting. Though it lasts far longer than bolt lightning, ball lightning is connected to thunderstorms. After a few moments, the lightning ball is said to burst, leaving behind a potent sulfurous stench.
