On May 4, 1922, a tornado outbreak produced a twister that hit Austin, Texas, and then divided into two tornadoes. In Austin, this tornado devastation was the worst ever. The State Institute for Deaf, Dumb, and Blind Colored Youths, Oak Hill, St. Edward’s University, East Austin, the University of Texas, Manchaca, and other locations reported damage from the twin twisters. On the St. Edward’s University campus, a dorm roof collapsed, killing one person. Over 50 individuals were hurt, and 13 more people lost their lives in Austin.
