Oh, Steve Irwin, how we miss him! The Crocodile Hunter, who was photographed here with his spouse Terri, was a zookeeper of a different kind. He was a television personality, showman, educator, and conservationist. When Irwin was abruptly killed by a wild animal while filming, the entire globe was startled. On September 4, 2006, a stingray’s barbed tail punctured Irwin’s heart on Australia’s Batt Reef. Though it was an odd attack, the world lost a well-known animal expert and television broadcaster as a result. “I have no fear of losing my life—if I have to save a koala, a crocodile, a kangaroo, or a snake, mate, I will save it,” Irwin famously declared.
