There was a military outpost on the outskirts of Taichung that finally saw practically all of its residents leave. The 86-year-old war veteran saved his home by painting the walls of the other homes with various characters and designs after the authorities decided to demolish them. It is currently one of Taiwan’s most popular tourist spots.
