2. San Gimignano, Tuscany, Italy

In the third century BC, the Etruscans founded San Gimignano. It was originally a fairly small village, but by the 10th century AD, it had grown into a town. This city’s tower residences are its most distinctive feature. Unfortunately, there are presently only 14 of these homes left. There were 72 of them at the start. San Gimignano, which is the center of all of Italy and specifically Tuscany, is drenched in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages.
