Against common opinion, fire ants have amazing learning and memory capacity. For long stretches of time, they can recall the whereabouts of food sources and grow from past mistakes to maximize their paths of search. Research has indicated that they can recall answers to past issues and overcome difficult mazes. This cognitive capacity permeates their social learning, in which advanced teaching techniques help to transmit knowledge amongst colony members.
