Did you know that the world’s or a nation’s ugliest dogs compete in this competition? Such competitions exist, despite how awful it may seem, to give dogs who may appear unattractive a chance to win something by virtue of their looks. We think that this photo, which was taken during the 18th Annual World’s Ugliest Dog Competition, is where the infamous side-eye first appeared.

The dog in the picture, Elwood, appears to be very upset with its owner for taking it to a location where people are applauding its ugly appearance. Its pink tongue is also clearly visible, and the doggo doesn’t appear to need to put it back in its mouth.
