The Japanese Spider Crab is the stuff of nightmares, so you might want to turn away if you’re frightened of anything big and multi-legged. From claw to claw, the legs of these enormous arthropods can reach lengths of up to twelve feet. /commons.wikimedia.org
This is a significant departure from their foot-long bodies. Despite being the focus of macabre and terrifying stories told by seamen for years, spider crabs are actually fairly benign to people and have a peaceful, kind nature.
