8. Exceptional Sensory Abilities

Capybaras flourish in their natural environment thanks in great part to their advanced range of sensory skills. Their raised eyes, ears, and nose enable them to remain alert when mostly submerged in water, therefore giving vital knowledge of possible hazards. Their keen sense of smell helps them to use scent marking to communicate with other capybaras and identify predators from rather great distances. Their hearing is also remarkable; they can detect low-frequency sounds across water and high-frequency vocalisations utilised in social communication. Their very sensitive whiskers let them to negotiate darkness and muddy water. Although their eyesight is not their strongest sense, they have adapted to see well in both bright daylight and low light; their eyes are positioned to give great peripheral vision. Their remarkable survival strategy stems from their great effectiveness in spotting danger and organising group actions thanks to these integrated sensory capacities.
