In a volatile layer known as the magnetosheath, researchers discovered the first indication of magnetic reconnection between the Earth’s magnetosphere and solar wind in 2018 using NASA’s Magnetospheric Multiscale Spacecraft (MMS). It is anticipated that the identification of this “magnetic turbulence” would provide answers to numerous inquiries concerning the impacts of the magnetic reconnection process on Earth and the artificial objects positioned within its orbit.
