The Unicorn is the name given to this tiny black hole candidate. This image shows that it is pulling on the red giant star that has uninvitedly become its companion. The Unicorn is the nearest black hole to Earth that has been discovered thus far, at a mere distance of 1,500 light years.

Scientists became aware of The Unicorn due to the neighbouring red giant’s behaviour. With only three solar masses, this small black hole is extremely light. Its unusual, legendary moniker was influenced by both its rarity and its placement inside the constellation Monoceros.
