While examining a data set from 2003, amateur astronomer Kai Ly found a new moon around Jupiter. The data set demonstrated that the moon was confined to Jupiter’s gravitational field. It was gathered from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope on Mauna Kea.

Giant Jupiter has 79 moons in addition to numerous additional objects that have been drawn into its gravitational pull. The new moon, which belongs to the Jovian Moons’ Carme Group, is known by the designation EJc0061. This new moon is tipped extremely sharply to orbit in opposition to Jupiter’s spin.
