Dense objects known as neutron stars are created when a normal star dies. Neutron stars typically release radiation in the form of high-energy X-rays and radio waves. However, researchers from Penn State University found a neutron star that was acting strangely in September of 2018.

Eight hundred light years from Earth, these astronomers discovered a long stream of infrared light coming from a neutron star. This has never been noticed before. The infrared signal was thought to have been produced by a disc of material encircling the star, but this theory has not yet been verified.
