4. Cognitive Abilities and Problem-Solving

Recent cognitive research has shown that capybaras exhibit amazing capacity for solving problems once unheard of in rodents. Studies have revealed they can pick up difficult activities, retain answers to issues over long stretches of time, and even apply tools in particular contexts. Scientists have recorded incidents of capybaras accessing food by manipulating objects and testing water depth using sticks. Their spatial memory is very remarkable; people can navigate challenging areas spanning many square kilometres. Research have also shown their capacity to identify human faces and react differently to familiar and unfamiliar persons, therefore implying a degree of social cognition until overlooked.
