9. Late Autumn Transition (November)

November provides a different viewpoint on Huanglong’s evolving terrain since it symbolises the change season between fall and winter. While the first signals of winter start to show at higher altitudes, the final traces of autumn foliage provide a striking contrast against the more naked branches. Colder temperatures change the look and mineral content of the travertine pools, hence defining their character. This time has some of the best clarity of the year since fresh air gives remarkable vistas of the nearby mountain ranges. Particularly at sunrise and dusk, the changing temperature produces spectacular atmospheric effects. As animals adjust to the approaching winter, wildlife activity becomes somewhat different. Early winter circumstances combined with late autumn colours provide special photographic chances not possible in other seasons.
