5. Smart Skin Technology

Thousands of tiny sensors and actuators straight into the outer surface of the chopper are combined in smart skin technology. These clever surfaces can actively change their electromagnetic characteristics to lower thermal signals and radar cross-section. The device offers adaptive stealth capabilities by continuously tracking approaching hazards and modifying its features. Self-healing characteristics of this technology also allow the surface to automatically heal small damage, therefore preserving stealth efficacy even after suffering battle damage.

6. Infrared Signature Management

Active and passive technologies combined in advanced infrared signature management systems help to reduce the heat signature of the helicopter. This covers dynamic heat distribution networks, thermal barrier coatings, and advanced engine exhaust coolings systems. Phase-change materials used in the most recent developments can absorb and release heat gradually, therefore avoiding hot areas that might be seen with thermal imaging devices. Smart thermal management systems also maximise the heat dispersion over the aircraft’s surface, which makes it more difficult to separate from the backdrop surroundings.
