7. Biological Control Implementation

Using biological control strategies presents a sustainable way to handle fire ants. This method uses viruses and natural enemies to lower fire ant numbers. Start by spotting and supporting native ant species vying for territory and resources against fire ants. Introduce beneficial nematodes that parasitize fire ant colonies, with an eye toward uses under ideal soil conditions. In places where phorid flies—natural fire ant parasites—can build sustained populations—use them. Use fungal infections designed especially to target fire ants under favorable environmental conditions. Maintaining sufficient soil moisture levels and supplying required food supplies helps to create habitat conditions for these biological control agents. Through consistent surveys, track the success of biological controls and modify implementation plans depending on findings. Although biological control agents take time to grow and exhibit effects, this method provides long-term sustainable control with minimum environmental impact.
