11. The Evolutionary Marvels of Tanzania
Among the most evolved architectural creations in the insect world are some of Tanzania’s termite mounds. Built by several species, including Macrotermes subhyalineus, these five to six meter tall constructions include advanced climate control systems. These Tanzanian mounds are especially amazing because they can adapt to changing climatic conditions; colonies change their mound form in response to local temperature trends. With separate chambers for particular colony purposes and complex defense systems against predators and severe weather conditions, the mounds also show significant social organization.
